THE RHODODENDRON FESTIVAL, which is one of the oldest flower festivals on the West Coast, returns to Florence for its 113th year, May 15–17. The festival theme this year is “A Blast from the Past.” One of the highlights of the festival is the rhododendron flower show, where hundreds of colorful rhododendrons are on display at the Florence Events Center on Saturday and Sunday.
The other major event of the festival is the Rhododendron Floral Parade on Sunday, starting at noon. Parade watchers can expect to see marching bands, equestrian groups, service organizations, vehicle and car groups, and floats, which are judged on the Best Use of Rhododendrons, Best Use of Theme, Costuming, Style, and Originality.
The festival officially begins with the Rhody Showcase to crown Queen Rhododendra, King of the Coast, and their court on Wednesday, May 13. Visitors can also enjoy other activities throughout the weekend, like the street vendor fair, car show, 5K run, carnival with rides and games, and more.
